Capital Development Authority (CDA) official sources have conveyed that, the seven-kilometer clearing and grubbing of the project, Expressway from PWD to Grand Trunk (G.T.) Road has begun.
The project has already been widened till Koral and currently from Korang to the PWD stop, two kilometers patch is being broadened through another project. The project completion time is estimated to be four months
After PWD, Expressway pins down to two lanes causing traffic jams on a daily basis and great chaos for adjoining housing societies, public and private commuters between Lahore and Islamabad. Its widening was hugely appreciated by Islamabad and Rawalpindi public because previously the project was announced many times but never started
The contract was awarded to Frontier Works Organization (FWO) for 11 billion July this year after the previous contractor failed to meet the deadline citing the increase in the cost of the material.
According to sources commencement letter was issued by CDA to FWO in September, which was the required document to start the project. Thereafter machinery was mobilized and a camp office was established at the site The widening of a two-lane section of the Expressway that extends from seven kilometers to four lanes was approved by The CDA board.
Contractor was instructed to finish the project in six months which also includes the Sohan Bridge and Bindar Bridge. The project progress meeting is held weekly at CDA because Expressway is the main route between Islamabad and Lahore that carries light and heavy traffic.
